Hey there folks,
Not sure if I'll score anything here, but I figured I'd try. Anyways, I'm very much in need of a notetaker. I recently sold both my old notetaker and my Braille display, since they were both older and lacked more modern connectivity, so I'm now left with nothing but my phone. Over the last month I've been made offers for a Braille Sense Plus and a BrailleNote Apex, both for around a thousand bucks, which is about all I've got to play with in terms of a budget. However, neither of those offers seems to be working out, and I really need a notetaker soon!.
If any of you has a comparable device you'd be willing to part with for around the same price, please, please, please get in touch with me as soon as possible! You can either respond here, or email me at berberi.albano66@gmail.com.
All the best, Albano.
What exactly would you consider for a note taker?
Why not the apex? It's exilent! Had it since 5th grade. Had to give it back to the school.
I'd love an Apex, and if I could find one for a thousand bucks I'd get it. I'm looking for something that has speech, a Braille display, the typical features most common to a notetaker. Word processor, calculator, file manager... Things of that nature. Connectivity is also very important to me, particularly wireless connectivity, (I.E. connecting to an IPhone as a Braille display).
Why not just get a Braille display (you can connect to your Iphone?) You can also use this for computers, too. Good luck; check EBay, there may be some deals there.
Hi,
I know this is a bit over your budget, but honestly, this is the lowest possible price you will find. Check this link:

Alas, that's more than twice the amount I've got in my budget. And no wonder, it's being sold by Humanware. Thanks anyway though. I'll keep looking...maybe one of these days I'll finally convince one of my potentials to send out one of their devices. It'll be so nice to have something other than my phone again... I rely on that thing for too many things as it is.
I'm sorry to have to break this to you, but a grand will not net you something with all of the features you are after. I saw a Braille Sense Plus go for $1500 awhile back, but that's about what the market is yielding right now. I agree, the technology is way too expensive. I hope the other potentials come through for you. If you look at sites like eBay and Blindbargains, you will get an overall picture of what you can expect to pay for certain technologies. The best advice I can offer is to save up some money if you can to get something like what you're looking for.
Hey man, I saw a Braille Sense onHand on Ebay for $995.00 It's a demo unit.
I do agree with Scott, i think, it is worth to save up to get a device that you really need, instead of settle for something less. From what i've seen so far, $1500 might be the least budget that you may want to consider, for something that have 32cells note taker. Personally, i'll choose BrailleSense U2 or the U2mini from Hims over Apex, but, i do understand, if you are some die heart hunanware fan or something, that might not be the choice for you. You might also want to consider the Braille Plus as well.
If you mean the braille plus second generation, it still has major firmware issues, and lacks quite a bit in the stability department. Also, you will not be able to connect the bp 18 to your iPhone, though it has it's own phone you can use if you have a plan on a GSM carrior. I know a couple people who are happy with it, because they only use it for email and word processing, but most people aren't too thrilled with it. Why not get a display that you can use with your phone? You could probably find a smaller display for under a grand, in fact, the braille pen 12 goes for under a grand.
Thanks for the clearification Scott. Yes, the braille+ 2nd gen. I heard mostly negative user reviews on it, but i thought it might improve since then. I do agree though, for a grand, you might get more on a braille display than a note taker.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. A Braille Sense U2 would be lovely, but waaaaay out of my reach now, or for the next few years at least. On the other hand, I've spoken to my friend that's offered the Apex. If all goes well, I'll hopefully be getting it in the next two weeks.
